Early life in Australia
Abbie Cornish was born on August 7, 1982, in Lochinvar, New South Wales. She grew up on a farm covering 70 hectares. Her parents are Shelley and Barry Cornish. She is the second of five children in her family.
Her sister, Isabelle Cornish, also works as an actress. As a teenager, Abbie became interested in foreign and independent cinema. Before her acting career, she began modeling at age 13 after a competition in Dolly Magazine.
