Who is Aleksandr Anyukov?
Early life and playing beginnings
Aleksandr Anyukov began his formal training at a football school located in Samara when he was just six years old. By the year 2000, he started competing for the reserve squad of Krylia Sovetov Samara in the Second Division. His performance caught the attention of coach Aleksandr Tarkhanov, leading to an invitation to join the first team.
He made his debut in the Russian Premier League on October 14, 2000, during a match against Zenit Saint Petersburg. He remained with Krylia Sovetov until the middle of 2005. During this period, he established himself as a reliable professional player.
Professional career with Zenit
In July 2005, Aleksandr Anyukov transferred to Zenit Saint Petersburg. He achieved significant success with this club, reaching the UEFA Cup quarterfinal during the 2005-06 season. He later secured a victory in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup tournament.
Over his extensive tenure, he won the Russian Premier League title five times, specifically in 2007, 2010, 2011-12, 2014-15, and 2018-19. His trophy collection at Zenit also includes the Russian Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and several Russian Super Cup titles.
International experience
Aleksandr Anyukov made his international debut for Russia in May 2004 during a match against Austria. He scored his first international goal the following year in a game against Germany. Throughout his career, he represented his nation in over 70 matches.
His tournament experience included appearances at two European Championships. He was part of the Russian squad for Euro 2008 and was also confirmed for the UEFA Euro 2012 team. He earned recognition as a bronze medalist for the 2008 European Championship.
Transition to coaching
On June 25, 2019, Zenit Saint Petersburg announced that Aleksandr Anyukov had joined their coaching staff. Shortly after, on July 14, 2019, he briefly ended his retirement to play for Krylia Sovetov Samara on loan for the 2019-20 season.
Following that season, his contract with Krylia Sovetov expired on May 31, 2020. He subsequently returned to Zenit Saint Petersburg to resume his role as an assistant coach. He holds the title of Honoured Master of Sports of Russia for his contributions to the sport.
