Early life and background
Alex Monette Consani was born on July 23, 2003, in Petaluma, California. Her mother was employed in water conservation, while her father worked with the organization Guide Dogs for the Blind. She has Italian, English, and German heritage. During her childhood, she began wearing feminine clothing at age four and later chose the name Alex at age eight. She underwent hormone replacement therapy during her teenage years.
Before her professional modeling career took off, she attended Petaluma High School, graduating in 2021. Following high school, she enrolled at Pace University. Her education was supported by the Petaluma Educational Foundation, which provided her with both the Alphabet Soup Thrift Store Scholarship and the MacIlvain Family Scholarship.
Modeling career beginnings
Alex started her modeling path in early 2015. Her mother discovered an advertisement on Facebook for Slay Model Management, which was a Los Angeles agency composed entirely of transgender models. At age 12, she became the youngest transgender model in the world. A profile highlighting her experiences in Cosmopolitan Germany went viral online in 2016, and she later participated in a photoshoot with Dominique Jackson at age 13.
In August 2019, at age 16, she signed with the agency IMG Models. She eventually moved to New York City at age 18 to pursue her professional opportunities further. Her runway career officially debuted in New York City for Tom Ford in 2021.
Rise to social media fame
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Alex began posting comedic, absurdist videos on TikTok under the handle captincroook. She also used the name Miss Mawma while creating content. These videos earned her significant attention, and she reached over 700,000 followers by 2022. By early 2024, her account had surpassed three million followers and accumulated over 150 million likes.
Her content has been described by various media outlets as occasionally divisive and sometimes at odds with standard social conduct. Despite this, she has appeared in music videos for artists like JT and Charli XCX during 2024. She was also included on the Forbes Top Creators Fashion 50 list in 2023, where she held the highest engagement rate of 21.5%.
Runway success and awards
Alex Consani walked in runway shows for prominent fashion houses including Versace, Alexander McQueen, Boss by Hugo Boss, Burberry, and Chloé during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Vogue named her a standout model during the Spring/Summer 2023 season. She also served as the face of the Jean Paul Gaultier collaborative collection with the brand Knwls in 2023.
In October 2024, she and Valentina Sampaio became the first transgender models to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Later that year, she achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first transgender person to win the Fashion Award for Model of the Year. In 2026, she served on the host committee for the Met Gala and later became the first transgender woman to co-host the event.
