Early life and family background
Born in Miami, United States, the actress was named Alexa Ellesse Vega at birth. Her father, Baruch Vega, worked as a fashion photographer and previously served as an informer for the Central Intelligence Agency. Her mother, Gina Rue, was a professional model. She has six siblings, including the actress Makenzie Vega.
When she was four years old, the family relocated to California. During her teenage years, she was homeschooled while beginning her professional career in entertainment.
Acting career and rise to fame
Alexa PenaVega began her career at age eight with a role as young Jo Harding in the 1996 film Twister. She subsequently appeared as a guest star on several television programs, including ER, Ghost Whisperer, and The Bernie Mac Show. In 2001, she gained international recognition for portraying Carmen Cortez in the successful film Spy Kids, a role she reprised in multiple sequels.

They married on January 4, 2014, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and both adopted the combined surname PenaVega.
The couple has three children together and shares a YouTube channel called La Vida PenaVega. Having previously lived in Maui, the family relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, by 2025. Alexa is a Christian and has publicly stated that her religious faith is the most important aspect of her life.
