Early life and education
Alyssa Sutherland was born in Brisbane, Australia, and spent her childhood in the suburb of Chermside. She is of Scottish descent and belongs to Clan Sutherland. During her high school years, she identified as a science enthusiast. She originally took drama classes but eventually shifted her focus to chemistry with the intention of pursuing a career in molecular biology.
Modeling career
Her career in modeling began in 1997 at the age of fifteen. She was discovered by an agent while standing in a crowd at the Queensland state finals for a Girlfriend magazine competition. After winning the national title that same year, she signed a contract with Vogue Australia and moved to New York to work internationally.
Over the following years, she built an extensive portfolio working for brands like Bulgari, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Chanel, and Hugo Boss. Acting roles and television
Alyssa Sutherland began her acting path by appearing in the 2001 documentary The Walk. She later appeared in a 2004 music video for Lenny Kravitz. Her early film credits include The Devil Wears Prada in 2006, Day on Fire, Don’t Look Up, and the 2012 crime film Arbitrage.
She gained significant recognition for her role as Princess Aslaug in the historical drama series Vikings, joining the cast in 2013 and remaining until 2016. In 2017, she starred as Eve Copeland in the miniseries adaptation of The Mist. Alyssa married her long-term partner, Laurence Shanet, on February 5, 2012. The wedding ceremony took place at Natai Beach in Thailand. The couple separated and finalized their divorce in November 2013.
