Early life and background
Angela Visser was born in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel in the Netherlands on October 18, 1966. Growing up in a Dutch environment, she eventually pursued a path in modeling and worked as a beautician before entering the world of major beauty pageants.
Her dedication to the industry led her to national recognition when she won the title of Miss Holland in August 1988. This victory set the stage for her subsequent international pageant appearances and her historic win representing her home country.
Miss Universe victory
Before her major international win, Angela competed at Miss World 1988 in late 1988, though she did not advance into the top ten finalists. However, her fortunes changed dramatically the following year when she entered the global competition.
At the Miss Universe 1989 event, Angela dominated the competition by sweeping all three semi-final rounds. She became the unanimous choice of the judges, securing the crown and making history as the first Dutch woman to ever win the title.
