Early life and education
Anna Friel Louise Friel was born on July 12, 1976, in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Her mother, Julie, worked as a special education teacher, while her father, Desmond, was a former French teacher and folk guitarist. She has a brother named Michael who works as a doctor.
For her education, Anna attended Crompton House CE Secondary School and later studied at Holy Cross College. She pursued her early acting training at the Oldham Theatre Workshop before beginning her professional career.
Television and film career
Anna made her professional acting debut at age 13 in the television miniseries G.B.H., which aired in 1991. She subsequently appeared in British soap operas including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Brookside, where she played Beth Jordache for two years.
Her role in Brookside involved well-known storylines, including a groundbreaking moment in television history. In 1995, she won a National Television Award for most popular actress for her work on the show.
Transitioning to international television, Anna played Charlotte Chuck Charles in the American dramedy series Pushing Daisies from 2007 to 2009. Her performance earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
