Anna Popplewell was born in London, United Kingdom. She is the eldest child of Debra Lomas, a dermatologist, and Lord Justice Sir Andrew Popplewell, who serves as a Court of Appeal judge. Her siblings include Lulu and Freddie Popplewell. Her family includes a former judge, Sir Oliver Popplewell, and a former cricketer named Nigel Popplewell.
For her schooling, she attended the North London Collegiate School. In 2007, she was admitted to Oxford University. While studying English at Magdalen College, she continued her academic pursuits alongside her growing career in the entertainment industry.

Anna began her professional path in 1998 with the TV production Frenchman's Creek. She was only six years old when she started taking drama classes at the Allsorts Drama School.
