Early life and background
Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad was born on November 15, 1945, in Ballangen Municipality, Sweden, though her birth took place in Bjørkåsen, Norway. Her mother was Synni Lyngstad and her father was Alfred Haase. Following her birth and the hardships of the wartime period, she was raised primarily by her grandmother Arntine in Sweden.
She grew up in Torshälla after relocating there in June 1949. During her childhood, she spent time with her mother's family during summer holidays and developed a deep love for music through her grandmother, who frequently sang traditional songs to her.
Early career and musical beginnings
Showing musical talent from an early age, Anni-Frid Lyngstad began her professional career at the age of 13 in 1958 as a dance band and schlager singer with the Evald Ek's Orchestra. She performed every weekend and worked hard to develop her vocal skills, eventually taking singing lessons with opera tenor Folke Andersson.
She later collaborated with various musical groups, including the Bengt Sandlunds Bigband and the Gunnar Sandevarn Trio, before forming her own band named the Anni-Frid Four. On September 3, 1967, she won the Swedish national talent competition New Faces, which earned her a recording contract with EMI Svenska and her first major television appearance.
Rise to fame with ABBA
Anni-Frid Lyngstad achieved international fame as one of the founding members and lead singers of the pop band ABBA. Her relationship with Benny Andersson and friendships with other members helped form the group, which became one of the best-selling music acts in history.
Alongside her work with ABBA, she continued to release solo projects, including her album Frida produced by Benny Andersson in 1971, and her second solo album Frida ensam. After the group broke up, she pursued an international solo singing career before eventually retiring from music.

Throughout her life, Anni-Frid Lyngstad has been married multiple times. Her spouses included Ragnar Fredriksson, Benny Andersson, and Prince Heinrich Ruzzo Reuss of Plauen. She also shared a partnership with Henry Smith, 5th Viscount Hambleden.
She has two children named Hans Ragnar Fredriksson and Ann Lise-Lotte Fredriksson Casper. Her contributions to music and culture were later recognized with honors such as becoming a Commander 1st class of the Order of Vasa.
