Who is Betsy Brandt?
Early life and education
Betsy Brandt was born in Bay City, Michigan, on March 14, 1973. She is of German descent and graduated from Bay City Western High School in her hometown in 1991.
She continued her education at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting in 1996. Following her undergraduate studies, she earned a Master of Fine Arts from Harvard University's Institute for Advanced Theater Training and also studied abroad at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Television and film career
Betsy is best known for portraying the character Marie Schrader in the AMC crime drama series Breaking Bad from 2008 to 2013. For her work on the show, she received three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations as part of the cast, winning one. She later reprised this role for the Better Call Saul series finale in 2022.
In addition to Breaking Bad, she has appeared in several other television programs. She played Annie Henry in the sitcom The Michael J. Fox Show and starred as Heather Short Hughes in the CBS comedy series Life in Pieces. Her television credits also include guest roles on Without a Trace, Judging Amy, ER, Boston Legal, The Practice, and NCIS, as well as roles in the miniseries Soulmates and the psychological drama series Saint X.
Theater work
Alongside her television career, Betsy has a strong background in theater. She has performed in various stage productions across the United States. Her stage credits include Much Ado About Nothing with the Arizona Theatre Company, performances with the San Jose Repertory Theatre, Beth Henley's Ridiculous Fraud, Julia Cho's The Language Archive with South Coast Repertory, and Next Fall with Geffen Playhouse.
Personal life
Betsy married fellow University of Illinois graduate Grady Olsen in September 1998. The couple shares two children together. After twenty five years of marriage, they separated in August 2023, and she subsequently filed for divorce in December 2024.
