Who is Blas Cantó?
Early life and real name
Blas Cantó Moreno was born in Ricote, Spain, on October 26, 1991. He started performing on television at a very young age. In the year 2000, he participated in the children television talent show Veo Veo when he was eight years old.
Four years later, he took part in Eurojunior, which was the national selection process organized by Televisión Española. He advanced to the national final with a song titled Sentir, competing to represent Spain at the Junior Eurovision Contest.
Auryn boy band
In 2009, Blas founded the boy band Auryn alongside other artists. The group gained big popularity after taking part in Destino Eurovisión in 2011, which was the national selection process to choose the Spanish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.
The band released their debut album titled Endless Road, 7058, which reached the top ten of the Spanish albums chart. Their subsequent records achieved even greater success. The album Anti-Heroes reached number one and received a platinum certification. Another album, Circus Avenue, stayed at the top of the charts for five consecutive weeks and also earned platinum status.
Television and solo music
In July 2016, Blas joined the fifth season of the television show Tu cara me suena, where contestants impersonate famous music artists. He competed on the program and was declared the winner of the season in March 2017 after receiving the majority of the televote.
Following his victory, he signed with Warner Music Spain and released his debut solo single titled In Your Bed. His first Spanish language single was released in March 2018 and was named El no soy yo, which achieved platinum certification. His debut solo album Complicado came out in September 2018 and debuted at the top of the Spanish charts.
Eurovision Song Contest
In October 2019, television broadcaster TVE announced that Blas would be the Spanish entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song Universo. Although the competition was cancelled due to the pandemic, he was chosen again to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
For the 2021 event, he performed the song Voy a quedarme during the final held in May 2021. Later that same year, he released the single Americana in collaboration with the Californian band Echosmith, sharing official videos on his YouTube channel.
