Brooke Lisa Burke was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on September 8, 1971. She grew up in Tucson, Arizona, as the younger of two children born to parents Donna and George Burke. Her mother was adopted and raised within the Jewish faith, while her father is of Irish and French descent. Her father left the family when she was two years old, and she was subsequently raised by her mother and her Armenian stepfather.
Television career and hosting
Brooke Burke first achieved national recognition as a lingerie model for the Frederick's of Hollywood catalog during the early 1990s. Her transition to television hosting began with the travel series Wild On! On the E! Network, which she hosted from 1999 to 2002. She later moved into primetime network television, hosting CBS programs such as Rock Star: INXS in 2005 and Rock Star: Supernova in 2006.
Dancing with the Stars success
A major milestone in her entertainment career occurred in 2008 when she competed on the seventh season of Dancing with the Stars. Partnered with professional dancer Derek Hough, she won the competition on November 25, 2008, after defeating Super Bowl champion Warren Sapp. Her performance record was well-known, as she spent nine out of eleven weeks at the top of the leaderboard.
