Who is Candice King?
Early life and real name
Candice King was born with the full name Candice Rene Accola on May 13, 1987, in Houston, United States. Her mother, Carolyn Clark Accola, worked as an environmental engineer, while her father, Kevin Accola, practiced as a cardiothoracic surgeon. Both of her parents originally came from southern Illinois, with her father from Carbondale and her mother from Herrin.
During her childhood, Candice grew up in Edgewood, Florida. For her education, she attended Lake Highland Preparatory School located in Orlando. She grew up alongside one younger brother.
Acting career highlights
Candice made guest appearances in several television series, including How I Met Your Mother, Supernatural, and Drop Dead Diva. In July 2009, she starred in the horror film Deadgirl, which centers on two high school boys who find an immortal woman in an abandoned asylum. That same year, she also secured a bit role in The Hannah Montana Movie.
In 2009, Candice joined the cast of The CW supernatural drama series The Vampire Diaries, which is an adaptation of a book series of the same name. She played the character Caroline Forbes, who became one of the main figures of the show and earned her two Teen Choice Awards. In June 2012, she joined the web series Dating Rules From My Future Self as Chloe Cunningham. She later reprised her role as Caroline in the final season of the spin-off series The Originals in 2018, and again in the final season of Legacies in 2022.
Music career
In December 2006, Candice independently released her debut album titled It's Always the Innocent Ones in the United States. She co-wrote twelve of the fourteen tracks included on the record. The remaining two tracks featured a cover of 'Til Tuesday's hit song Voices Carry and a female version of American Hi-Fi's The Breakup Song titled Our Breakup Song.
Candice also toured as a backing singer for Miley Cyrus on the Best of Both Worlds Tour. In 2008, she appeared as herself in the 3D concert film Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. Later, in February 2011, she performed a musical cover of The Bangles song Eternal Flame during an episode of The Vampire Diaries.
Family and relationships
Candice began dating musician Joe King of the band The Fray after they met at a Super Bowl event in February 2012. Her co-star Nina Dobrev introduced them to each other. They became engaged in May 2013 and later married on October 18, 2014, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Through this marriage, Candice became a stepmother to Joe King's two daughters from a previous relationship.
Candice shares two daughters with Joe King, who were born in January 2016 and December 2020, respectively. In May 2022, she filed for divorce from Joe King while retaining the surname King. In December 2023, she confirmed that she was in a relationship with American actor Steven Krueger. They married in a private ceremony in 2026, and in May 2026, Candice and Steven welcomed their first child together, a son, which is her third child overall.
