Early life and background
Candice Susan Swanepoel was born on October 20, 1988, in Mooi River, South Africa. She grew up on a farm with her parents, Willem Swanepoel and Eileen Swanepoel, and an older brother named Stephen. During her childhood, she practiced ballet and attended boarding school at St. Anne's Diocesan College in Hilton.
At the age of 15, a model scout discovered her in a Durban flea market. This chance encounter marked the beginning of her path into the fashion industry, leading her to eventually live and work in international fashion capitals.
Career highlights and Victoria's Secret
Candice Swanepoel built a major career in modeling, working with top global brands and appearing in numerous international editions of Vogue, Elle, GQ, and Harper's Bazaar. She walked the runway for fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, Dolce and Gabbana, and Versace.
In 2010, she officially became a Victoria's Secret Angel. She also opened the first Victoria's Secret retail store in Canada at the West Edmonton Mall in August 2010. Candice Swanepoel was previously engaged to Brazilian model Hermann Nicoli, whom she met in Paris when she was 17. The couple announced their engagement in August 2015 and later had two sons together, born in October 2016 and June 2018. The couple split in November 2018.
Fluent in Afrikaans, English, and Portuguese, she learned Portuguese from her former partner. As of 2018, she splits her time between living in Brazil and New York City. She is also actively involved in charity work as a global ambassador for mothers2mothers, supporting HIV-free generations of mothers and children in Africa.
