Early life and background
Christophe Guy Denis Lambert was born in Great Neck, New York, on March 29, 1957. His mother was Yolande Agnès Henriette and his father was Georges Lambert-Lamond, a French diplomat at the United Nations. Because of his father's work, Christopher Lambert moved to Switzerland at the age of two and grew up in Geneva, where he attended the International School of Geneva and the Institut Florimont. During his teenage years, his family moved to France and settled in Paris. Christopher made his acting debut in a school play at the age of twelve.
Rise to international fame
Director Hugh Hudson chose Christopher for the lead role of Tarzan in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, which was released in 1984. He beat out other actors partly due to his myopia, which made it look like he was always gazing into the distance when he took off his glasses. Following this breakthrough, he starred in Luc Besson's film Subway in 1985, earning the César Award for Best Actor for his performance.
In 1986, Christopher appeared in Highlander as Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior. Director Russell Mulcahy cast him after seeing his picture in a magazine, and Christopher spent weeks learning English with a dialect coach before filming. The movie became a cult hit and an international box-office success, featuring a soundtrack composed by the rock group Queen.
Film and producing career
Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Christopher took on diverse roles across different genres. In 1991, he starred in Highlander II: The Quickening alongside Sean Connery.
