Early life and background
Claudia Black Lee Black was born in Sydney, Australia, on October 11, 1972. Her father, Jules Black, worked as a gynaecologist, while her mother, Judy Black, served as a professor of pharmacology at the University of Sydney. She grew up alongside an older sister named Georgina and attended the Anglican Kambala School in her home city.
Due to her family background and personal path, Claudia has lived in numerous countries around the globe, including New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. She later settled in the United States and officially became an American citizen in 2020, establishing her residence in Los Angeles.
Rise to fame in television
Claudia began her acting career in her native Australia, landing her first leading television role as Claire Bonacci in A Country Practice. She also appeared in the New Zealand soap opera City Life, playing the Greek lawyer Angela Kostapas.
Her breakthrough came in 1999 when she was cast as Aeryn Sun in the science fiction series Farscape. The show brought her international recognition, earning her multiple Saturn Award nominations and a win in 2005 for her work in the miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.
Following her success on Farscape, Claudia joined the cast of Stargate SG-1 as Vala Mal Doran. Initially appearing in a guest role, she became a regular cast member during the tenth season and later reprised her character in the direct-to-video films Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.

In addition to her television work, Claudia has appeared in several feature films, including Pitch Black alongside Vin Diesel, Queen of the Damned, the thriller Time Now, and the science fiction film Deus, which she also produced.

Her well-known credits include voicing Chloe Frazer in the Uncharted series, Morrigan in BioWare's Dragon Age, and Admiral Daro'Xen and Matriarch Aethyta in Mass Effect. Her voice work has earned her several Behind the Voice Actors Awards.
