Early life and background
Colin Firth Andrew Firth was born on September 10, 1960, in the village of Grayshott, Hampshire, in the United Kingdom. His parents were both academics and teachers, which meant his family frequently travelled during his childhood. He spent some years living in Nigeria and also lived in St. Louis, Missouri, when he was eleven years old.
After returning to England, Colin attended Kings' School in Winchester. As a teenager, he participated in drama workshops and decided at age fourteen that he wanted to become a professional actor. He later attended Barton Peveril Sixth Form College in Eastleigh before moving to London to join the National Youth Theatre and study at Drama Centre London.

Colin made his film debut in the screen adaptation of Another Country in 1984. He was identified in the mid-1980s as part of the Brit Pack of rising young British actors. His early television work included starring in the 1988 BBC dramatisation Tumbledown, which earned him a Royal Television Society Best Actor Award.
