Who is Connor Franta?
Early life and education
Born in La Crosse, USA, he is the third of four children. His parents are Peter, a physician, and Cheryl, a homemaker. He was raised Catholic in La Crescent, Minnesota. He attended St. Peter's Catholic School through 8th grade. He swam for a YMCA team because he was overweight as a child. He ran cross country while attending La Crescent High School. He graduated in 2011.
He studied business at Saint John's University and the College of Saint Benedict. He added an arts minor focused on films during his second year. He dropped out of college and moved to Los Angeles in 2013.
How Connor became famous
Connor Franta started vlogging in August 2010. He was inspired by Mitchell Davis. He joined the Our2ndLife group from 2012 to 2014 with Kian Lawley, Trevi Moran, JC Caylen, Ricky Dillon, and Sam Pottorff. He left the group in July 2014.
He appeared in YouTube Rewind in 2014 and 2015. He won Favorite YouTube Star at the 42nd People's Choice Awards in 2016. His channel had 5.67 million subscribers in January 2017.
Books and photography
He published a memoir called A Work in Progress on April 21, 2015. This book was on the New York Times best sellers list for 16 weeks and sold over 200,000 copies. He toured the US cities of Houston, Orlando, New York City, New Jersey, and Los Angeles. He also visited London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds in the UK. His tour included Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth in Australia.
In 2017, he released Note to Self to discuss depression and anxiety. He published a third memoir, House Fires, on September 21, 2021. Connor also works as a photographer. His work appeared in V, L'Officiel, and Paper. He has shot celebrities like Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat and Hailee Steinfeld.
Business and charity
He launched a fundraising campaign for The Thirst Project in 2014. He offered T-shirts, posters and Skype calls to raise 120,000 dollars for water wells in Swaziland. He raised over 230,000 dollars by the end of the month. He raised another 191,000 dollars in 2015 to build 16 more wells. He received the Governor's Award on June 30, 2015.
He started Common Culture Coffee in February 2015 with the LA Coffee Club. He co-founded the Heard Well record label in July 2015 with Andrew Graham and Jeremy Wineberg. The label focuses on compilation albums curated by influencers. He released five compilation albums between 2014 and 2016.
Personal life
Connor came out as gay in a December 2014 YouTube video. This video has over 12 million views. He confirmed a relationship with Troye Sivan from 2014 to 2016. He mentioned meeting Chappell Roan on the Obsessed with Brooke Averick podcast in 2024. He currently lives in West Hollywood, California.
