Who is David Ramsey?
Early life and education
David Ramsey was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 17, 1971. He attended Mumford High School in his hometown during his youth.
Following high school, he studied at the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts located at Wayne State University in Detroit. He completed his studies there and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Career highlights
David began his professional acting career in the late nineteen nineties. From 1997 to 1998, he starred as pastor David Randolph in the UPN sitcom Good News. In the year 2000, he portrayed Muhammad Ali in the Fox television film Ali: An American Hero. That same year, he also appeared in the feature film Pay It Forward and joined the recurring cast of For Your Love.
In subsequent years, he secured roles across many different television programs. He appeared in episodes of NCIS, The West Wing, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and Ghost Whisperer. From 2008 to 2009, he played Anton Briggs in seventeen episodes of the Showtime drama series Dexter.
His most prominent television role began in 2012 when he joined the main cast of the CW superhero show Arrow. He played John Diggle, a military veteran and partner to the main character, throughout the run of the series until 2020. During his time on Arrow, he also made his directorial debut by directing the season seven episode titled Past Sins. He later reprised the character of John Diggle in other television series within the same universe, including The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, and Legends of Tomorrow. Beyond the superhero genre, he starred as Mayor Carter Poole in the television series Blue Bloods.
Martial arts training
Outside of his acting and directing work, David maintains a strong background in martial arts and combat training. He is an accomplished practitioner of Jeet Kune Do.
In addition to Jeet Kune Do, he has studied boxing, Taekwondo, and Wing Chun. He also trained in kickboxing under the instruction of Benny Urquidez.
