Who is Dax Shepard?
Early life and education
Dax Shepard Randall Shepard was born on January 2, 1975, at Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan. His parents were Laura Louise LaBo, who worked at General Motors, and David Robert Shepard Sr., a car salesman. His parents divorced when he was three years old, and he was raised primarily in Walled Lake, Michigan.
He attended Walled Lake Central High School, graduating in 1993 before enrolling in The Groundlings school. He later studied at Santa Monica College and West Los Angeles College before transferring to the University of California, Los Angeles. He graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology.
Acting and film career
Dax moved to Los Angeles in 1996 and joined The Groundlings improv troupe, eventually performing with their Sunday Company alongside other future comedy stars. In 2003, he began appearing on the MTV practical joke reality series Punk'd alongside Ashton Kutcher. This television role helped launch his broader career in comedy and entertainment.
He starred in several feature films throughout the 2000s and 2010s, including Without a Paddle in 2004, Zathura: A Space Adventure in 2005, Employee of the Month in 2006, and Idiocracy in 2006. He also had a main role in the comedy Baby Mama in 2008 alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. From 2010 to 2015, Dax portrayed Crosby Braverman in the NBC comedy-drama series Parenthood.
Podcast and other projects
On February 14, 2018, Dax launched the interview podcast Armchair Expert with co-host Monica Padman. The show features conversations with journalists, actors, academics, and public figures about their lives. By 2018, the program became the most popular new podcast on iTunes.
In addition to his media work, Dax co-founded the baby product and diaper company Hello Bello with his wife, Kristen Bell. He is also an avid car enthusiast and motorcycle racer who frequently participates in events at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
Family and relationships
Dax met actress Kristen Bell at a mutual friend's birthday party, and the two began dating in late 2007. They announced their engagement in January 2010 and married at the Beverly Hills County Clerk's Office on October 17, 2013. The couple shares two daughters, who were born in March 2013 and December 2014.
