Early life and education
Dilara Kazimova was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 20, 1984. She grew up with a strong interest in the arts and pursued formal training in music.
She studied vocal arts at the Republican Arts Gymnasium and later attended the Baku Academy of Music to hone her professional skills. After finishing her studies, she briefly performed as part of an opera troupe before moving into other genres.
Bands and early music career
From the early 2000s, Dilara Kazimova was a member of the rock band Unformal. The group participated in the Azerbaijani national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 and placed second in the national final.
She later became the lead singer for the duo Milk and Kisses. The duo also competed in the national selection for Eurovision and placed second in the final in 2010. In the same year, Milk and Kisses represented Azerbaijan at the New Wave music festival in Jurmala, Latvia, finishing in 16th place.
Eurovision and television success
In 2014, Dilara Kazimova entered the Azerbaijani national selection as a solo artist and won the competition. She traveled to Copenhagen to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Start a Fire, which was released alongside a music video in March 2014.
During the contest, she performed in the first semi-final and placed 9th with 57 points, which qualified her for the grand final. In the final event, she finished in 22nd place with 33 points. Later that year, she appeared as a contestant on the fourth season of the Ukrainian reality talent show Holos Krayiny, performing under the coaching of Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.
Acting and film projects
Alongside her musical pursuits, Dilara Kazimova has worked as an actress in Azerbaijani cinema. She starred in the film Try Not to Breathe in 2006, acting alongside Fakhraddin Manafov.
She also appeared in the film Purgatory in 2007. For this project, she contributed to the soundtrack by recording the song Sonsuz yol as a member of the band Unformal.
