Elijah Wood Jordan Wood was born on January 28, 1981, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His parents operated a delicatessen together during his early childhood. He has an older brother and a younger sister. As a young boy, he took piano lessons and began modeling in his hometown. He appeared in local stage productions including theatrical versions of The Sound of Music and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. His parents sold their business in 1989, and he moved to Los Angeles with his family to pursue an acting career while studying at Laurel Springs School.
