Who is Ellen Muth?
Early life and education
Ellen Anna Muth was born in Milford, Connecticut. Her parents are Eric and Rachel Muth. As a young person, she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City. She also received training at the Skip Barber Racing School.
In her early years, she was recognized as a member of Mensa and Intertel. These are organizations for people with high IQ scores. She spent her formative years in Connecticut before beginning her professional path in the performing arts.
Career beginnings and early film
Before acting, she worked as a model for Ford Models and Rascal's Agency. Her first professional acting work began with television commercials in 1993. She made her major film debut in the 1995 movie Dolores Claiborne. Following this, she appeared in the eighth season of Law and Order.
In 2000, she worked on episodes for the series The Beat and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. She also performed in the short story adaptation Cora Unashamed. Her performance in the 1999 movie The Young Girl and the Monsoon received critical notice. She played a daughter character alongside actor Terry Kinney.
Television roles and Dead Like Me
Ellen Muth gained significant attention for starring as Georgia Lass in the Showtime series Dead Like Me. This show aired from 2003 until 2004. She portrayed a grim reaper in the program. Her work on this series led to nominations for a Saturn Award and a Satellite Award in 2004.
In 2009, she reprised this character for the direct-to-video film Dead Like Me: Life After Death. Earlier, she played the lead in the Lifetime movie The Truth About Jane. She also made guest appearances in the series Hannibal in 2013.
Later work and other projects
Her later film credits include the 2007 thesis film Jack n Jill and the 2012 romantic comedy Margarine Wars. She acted alongside Robert Loggia and Doris Roberts in the latter project. In 2008, she participated in a reading of a musical comedy called Fleece the Flock at the Theatre Artist Workshop in Norwalk.
In 2022, she appeared as Natalie in Exorcism of Fleete Marish. She also voiced characters in animated shorts and audio dramas like Anne Manx in the Empress Blair Project.
Current path
By the mid-2010s, Ellen Muth decided to pause her career in the entertainment industry. She confirmed this shift during a 2015 interview. She shifted her focus toward private business ventures outside of acting.
During the early 2020s, she began managing a coffee business. Also, she started working in a cat-breeding business. She has remained largely withdrawn from public life since her last television appearance.
