Who is Emilia Jones?
Early life and family
Emilia Annis I. Jones was born in London on February 23, 2002. She is the daughter of Aled Jones, who is a well-known Welsh singer and presenter, and Claire Fossett, an English circus performer. She grew up in the Barnes area with her younger brother, Lucas. Before focusing on a full-time acting career, she attended school at Kew House in West London.
Her interest in performing arts started at a young age. She joined an improvisation class led by an agent, which helped her secure her first casting opportunity for the film One Day. This early exposure to the industry set the foundation for her transition from a child actor to a professional performer.
Acting career beginnings
The professional career of Emilia Jones began in 2010 when she appeared as Jasmine in the film One Day. Shortly after, she took on roles in major productions, including a small part in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Her television work included playing Alice in the drama Utopia and appearing in a 2013 episode of the long-running science fiction series Doctor Who.
She also built experience on the stage early on. In 2011, she debuted as Young Fiona in the original West End production of Shrek the Musical at the Theatre Royal. By 2013, she performed in a stage adaptation of The Turn of the Screw as the character Flora. These roles helped her develop her craft before she moved into more prominent screen projects.
Breakthrough with CODA
Emilia Jones gained international recognition for her starring role as Ruby Rossi in the 2021 Apple TV plus film CODA. The movie follows a young woman who is the only hearing member of a deaf family. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and eventually won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Following the success of CODA, she appeared in several other projects including Cat Person, Fairyland, and Winner. In 2025, she took on a role in the HBO crime drama series Task, which earned her a nomination for a British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. Television and major projects
Before her film breakthrough, she secured a major television role as Kinsey Locke in the Netflix fantasy series Locke and Key. She appeared in the show from 2020 through 2022. She noted that she was attracted to the project because the character required her to portray two versions of the same person, specifically before and after the character removes her fear.
Her recent work continues to span both television and film. In 2025, she was cast in Edgar Wright's adaptation of The Running Man, marking her first project in the blockbuster genre.
