Who is Emilia Rydberg?
Early life and background
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Emilia Rydberg grew up surrounded by music. Her father is the Ethiopian singer Teshome Mitiku, and her mother, Malena Rydberg, is Swedish. During her formative years as a student, she attended the Adolf Fredrik's Music School in Stockholm. She later continued her education at Kungsholmens gymnasium, where she further developed her skills as a composer and lyricist.
Rise to musical fame
Lars Anderson, who was the son of ABBA manager Stig Anderson, discovered Emilia in 1996. She quickly gained widespread attention with the release of her 1998 hit song Big Big World. This track reached the number one position on music charts across several different nations. Throughout the initial stages of her professional path, she performed simply as Emilia.
In later years, the artist began using her father's surname, performing under the name Emilia Mitiku. She continued to release music throughout the following decade. In 2009, she competed in Melodifestivalen, which serves as the Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She performed the song You're My World and successfully advanced past her initial heat, eventually placing ninth in the final competition.
Career developments and collaborations
The singer released her album My World in 2009. That same year, she issued the single Teardrops to radio stations. She also collaborated with Ákos Dobrády on the duet Side By Side, also known as Szerelemre hangolva. This project was recorded in both English and Hungarian languages. Later, she recorded a cover version of the Rihanna song We Found Love during a studio session in Stockholm, which was shared on YouTube. She released the single Lost Inside in June 2012.
In 2021, Emilia joined the all-female music group called Super Fëmmes. The lineup included other artists such as Therese Grankvist, Denise Lopez, Mia Shotte, and Josefine Willers. In April 2022, this band released their debut single, which was a cover version of the 1991 hit song Everybody's Free by the artist Rozalla.
