Early life and education
Emma Margaret Marie Tachard-Mackey was born in Le Mans. She is the daughter of a French father, who worked as a school headmaster, and an English mother. During her youth, she lived in the commune of Sablé-sur-Sarthe.
In 2013, she earned her baccalauréat certificate within the French school district known as l'académie de Nantes. Following this achievement, she relocated to England to pursue higher education. She attended the University of Leeds, where she focused her studies on English language and literature, completing her degree in 2016.
Rising to fame
Emma Mackey secured her initial professional acting credit through the Netflix comedy-drama program Sex Education. She portrayed the character Maeve Wiley, a student who organizes an underground therapy service at school. The role brought her significant attention and critical acclaim for her portrayal of a quick-witted and business-minded teenager.
Her work on this series resulted in a nomination for a British Academy Television Award in 2021. Also, she received a National Comedy Award in 2022 for her performance in the show, which ran until 2023.
