Early life and athletics
Frida Gustavsson was born and raised in a suburb located in Stockholm, Sweden. During her childhood years, she focused heavily on athletics and participated as a runner, hurdler, and long jumper.
She initially harbored strong ambitions of competing in the Olympic Games. However, a serious knee injury suffered at age 14 forced her to abandon those specific athletic goals.
Modelling career highlights
Frida was discovered by a scout at age 10 while visiting an IKEA store alongside her father. She began working locally in 2008 and relocated to Japan that same year to expand her professional opportunities.
She walked the runway for numerous major fashion houses, including Valentino, Fendi, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, and Jean Paul Gaultier. She opened the Valentino Haute Couture fall show in Paris in 2012 and also walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show that same year.

She later appeared in the first season of the fantasy television series The Witcher as Visenna. Between 2022 and 2024, she achieved widespread recognition by starring as the prominent Viking warrior Freydis Eiriksdottir in the Netflix series Vikings Valhalla.

Frida completed her secondary education in June 2011 when she graduated from St Martins Gymnasium situated in Sundbyberg, Sweden.
In her personal life, she married photographer Hjalmar Rechlin in 2015, though the marriage later ended in divorce. She subsequently married Marcel Engdahl in 2022 at the historic Storkyrkan Church located in Stockholm.
