Early life and family
Gabriela Spanic de Galleguillos was born in Ortiz, Venezuela, on December 10, 1973. Her parents are Casimiro Spanic and Norma Utrera. She grew up with a twin sister named Daniela, a younger sister named Patricia, and a younger brother named Antonio. Before she pursued acting, she studied psychology at Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas for a year.
Career beginnings
Gabriela started her career by participating in the Miss Venezuela contest in 1992, representing Guárico. This platform led to television work, including an appearance in the telenovela Morena Clara, where she played Linda Prado. In 1994, she secured her first leading role in Como Tu Ninguna, which ran for two years and achieved big international success.
Rise to international fame
After appearing in Todo por tu Amor, Gabriela moved to Mexico. There, she took on the dual role of twins Paola and Paulina in La usurpadora in 1998. The show aired in over 125 countries and became one of the most popular telenovelas in the Spanish-speaking world. It also became the first telenovela to surpass 20 points in the American television audience grid. She later co-hosted the final edition of the OTI Festival in Acapulco in the year 2000.

Gabriela continued working with major networks like Televisa, Telemundo, and TV Azteca. She starred in Por Tu Amor, La intrusa, La venganza, Prisionera, and Tierra de pasiones. Gabriela was married to actor Miguel de León from 1996 until their divorce in 2003. She later welcomed a son with an ex-boyfriend in 2008. In 2025, she relocated to Brazil.
