Early life and family
Antonino Giovanni Ribisi was born in Los Angeles on December 17, 1974. His mother, Gay, worked as a talent manager, and his father, Al Ribisi, was a professional musician who played keyboards for the band People!. He grew up in California with his twin sister, Marissa Ribisi, who is an actress, and his older sister, Gina Ribisi, who works as a voice actress.
He began his professional acting career at a young age. During the 1980s, he secured a role in the sitcom My Two Dads. Throughout the 1990s, he continued to build his resume with various appearances in film and television projects.
Television and film career
In the 1990s, Giovanni Ribisi became a familiar face on television with a recurring role on the popular sitcom Friends, where he played the half brother of the character Phoebe Buffay. He also appeared in other shows such as The Wonder Years and the crime drama My Name Is Earl. His work on My Name Is Earl earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
His film career includes parts in That Thing You Do!, Saving Private Ryan, and Gone in 60 Seconds. Later, he appeared in movies like Flight of the Phoenix, Perfect Stranger, and Public Enemies. He portrayed Parker Selfridge in the Avatar franchise and took on the role of H. Silas Pickering in Horizon: An American Saga. He also played the lead character in the Amazon series Sneaky Pete across three seasons and starred in the sitcom Dads.

Beyond his acting work, Giovanni Ribisi has explored other areas of filmmaking. In 2016, he directed the music video for the song Siberian Nights by the band The Kills. He made his debut as a cinematographer with the 2024 independent film Strange Darling. His interest in cinematography technology also extends to collecting various devices, including VistaVision equipment, which he provided for use during the filming of the project One Battle After Another.
He is also set to play the boxing trainer Angelo Dundee in a limited series titled The Greatest, which focuses on the life of Muhammad Ali and is scheduled for a 2026 release.

Giovanni Ribisi was married to actress Mariah O'Brien from 1997 until 2001, and they have one daughter together. Following that relationship, he was involved with singer-songwriter Cat Power for five years until 2012. Later that year, he married the English model Agyness Deyn, but he filed for divorce in early 2015. He later announced the birth of fraternal twins with his partner, Emily Ward, in 2018.
He is a practicing Scientologist. In December 2005, he participated in the public opening of a museum operated by the organization called Psychiatry: An Industry of Death.
