Who is Gouramangi Singh?
Early life and background
Gouramangi Singh comes from the village of Awang Sekmai, located 17 kilometers north of Imphal West district in India. He grew up in a modest environment before pursuing a career in professional sports.
He received his early training at the Tata Football Academy. This institution helped prepare him for a long career in Indian association football.
Club career highlights
During his time with Dempo SC, Gouramangi Singh won both the Federation Cup and the National Football League. He also achieved success with Mahindra United, winning the Federation Cup during the 2005/2006 season and the I-League in 2009. He was recognized as the best defender in the I-League for the 2008/2009 season.
While playing for Churchill Brothers between 2007 and 2013, he secured one league title, two IFA Shields, and two Durand Cups. He later moved to Rangdajied United in November 2013, making his I-League debut against Shillong Lajong F.C. At the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
His professional path included stints with several other organizations. He played for Chennaiyin FC during the first Indian Super League season in 2014. He also served as captain for Bharat FC and played for NEROCA in 2017. His club history includes appearances for Sporting Clube de Goa, Prayag United S.C., and FC Pune City.
International and coaching career
Gouramangi Singh represented the Indian national team starting in 2006. He was part of the squads that won the 2007 Nehru Cup and the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup. He scored his sixth international goal during the 2012 Nehru Cup final against Cameroon.
In 2011, he scored a goal against the United Arab Emirates in a FIFA World Cup qualifier. Following his playing days, he transitioned into management. He joined Bengaluru United as head coach in December 2019 and later served as an assistant coach there.
His coaching experience continued with FC Goa, where he was appointed as a first-team assistant coach on July 13, 2022. He currently serves as the head coach for the Indian Super League club Goa.
