Who is Hakan Şükür?
Early life and career beginnings
Hakan Şükür was born in Adapazarı, Turkey, on September 1, 1971. He began his professional football career with Sakaryaspor, making his debut shortly after his 17th birthday. During his three-year spell with the club, he scored 18 Süper Lig goals and established himself as a promising young striker.
In the summer of 1990, Hakan moved to Bursaspor. He scored six goals in 27 games during his second season, helping the team finish in sixth place and earning his first call-up to the Turkey national team.
Galatasaray and international success
Hakan Şükür achieved his greatest club success during his spells with Galatasaray. Nicknamed the Bull of the Bosphorus, he won multiple league titles and domestic cups with the club. In the 1999 to 2000 season, he helped Galatasaray win a domestic double and the UEFA Cup, becoming the first Turkish side to claim a European title. He also played abroad for clubs such as Torino, Inter Milan, Parma, and Blackburn Rovers.
On the international stage, Hakan represented Turkey a total of 112 times and scored 51 goals. He played a key role in helping Turkey finish in third place at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he scored the fastest goal in World Cup history against South Korea after 10.8 seconds.

Hakan Şükür stands at a height of 191 centimeters. He is of Albanian origin, with both of his parents being immigrants from Yugoslavia. His first marriage was broadcast live on television, though the couple divorced after four months. He later married his second spouse, Beyda, with whom he fathered three children.
In addition to his athletic career, Hakan entered politics and was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Justice and Development Party in 2011. He later resigned to serve as an independent member before moving to the United States.
