Early life and background
Haruka Shimazaki was born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Before she entered the entertainment industry, she had an interest in becoming a veterinarian. She grew up with a younger brother, and her grandmother often helped care for them while both parents worked.
Her path into entertainment began in 2009. She successfully auditioned for the 9th generation of AKB48 through the 6th Kenkyūsei Audition. This opportunity marked the start of her professional career in the Japanese idol scene.
AKB48 career highlights
During her time with AKB48, she was frequently referred to by the nickname Paruru. In the 2010 senbatsu election, she achieved the highest rank among all trainees by placing 28th. She was later promoted to the newly formed Team 4 in June 2011.
After Team 4 was disbanded, she moved to Team B in August 2012. That same year, she won the third AKB48 rock-paper-scissors tournament held at Nippon Budokan. This victory allowed her to hold the center position for the single Eien Pressure, which arrived in December 2012.
Her media presence grew as she appeared on the cover of Smart magazine in early 2013. She also appeared in a recruiting commercial for the Japan Self-Defense Forces in 2014. Her perceived apathetic attitude toward fans during meet-and-greet events led to the term salty treatment being named a top Japanese buzzword.
Acting and YouTube career
Haruka Shimazaki graduated from AKB48 on December 31, 2016. She had previously announced her departure in October of that year. Following her graduation, she focused on acting in various television and film projects. Her credits include the NHK asadora Hiyokko and the film adaptation of Nisekoi, where she played Marika Tachibana.
On March 30, 2020, she launched her YouTube channel named Paruroom. She uploads new content every day at 7:00 pm JST. The channel reached a milestone of 100,000 subscribers by May 2 of that year. She eventually transitioned into working as an independent talent in July.
