Who is Hrishitaa Bhatt?
Early life and career beginnings
Hrishitaa Bhatt was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She attended Mithibai College and later studied at Trinity College London. She also trained in jazz dance under choreographer Shiamak Davar.
Before her film career, she appeared in the 1999 Liril commercial campaign. She was also featured in music videos for the songs Aankhon Me Tera Hi Chehra by Aryans and Dil- Kisi Pe Jab Aa Jaye by Sonali Vajpayee.
Film debut and initial success
She made her acting debut in the 2001 historical drama Asoka, playing the character Devi alongside Shah Rukh Khan. This role earned her nominations for Best Female Debut at the Zee Cine Awards and the Screen Weekly Awards.
Her subsequent projects included the film Dil Vil Pyar Vyar in 2002 and the comedy drama Shararat, where she starred as Neha Sengupta. It was the 2003 film Haasil that brought her significant critical acclaim. She portrayed the character Niharika, a performance that reviewers noted for its strength and confidence.
Diverse acting roles and projects
Between 2003 and 2009, she appeared in approximately twenty-five films across languages including Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Telugu, and Kannada. Well-known credits from this time include Ab Tak Chhappan, Charas: A Joint Operation, and the 2007 film Dharm, which was an official entry at the Cannes Film Festival.
Her work expanded into regional cinema during the 2010s, including the Marathi film Mani Mangalsutra and the Bengali movie Mrs. Sen. She also produced the 2011 film Shakal Pe Mat Ja. In 2016, she played a Bengali widow in the film Junooniyat.
Television and web series work
Hrishitaa Bhatt entered the digital space in 2020 with the cop drama series Lalbazaar on ZEE5, where she played a journalist. She followed this with another ZEE5 project, Chargesheet: The Shuttlecock Murder.
She has also worked as a television host, presenting the program Rangoli on DD National between 2018 and 2019, and returning to the show in 2022. Also, she was part of the cast for the 2023 show Swaraj, in which she portrayed Rani Lakshmi Bai.
Personal life and professional committees
She married Anand Tiwari, a United Nations diplomat, in a private ceremony in Delhi on March 4, 2017.
Beyond acting, she has been involved in several film-related organizations. She served as a Steering Committee Member for the International Film Festival of India in 2017, 2018, and 2022. In 2022, she was also part of the Indian delegation representing national cinema at the Venice Film Festival.
