Who is Richarlison?
Early life and career beginnings
Richarlison was born in Nova Venecia, Brazil, on May 10, 1997. Before turning professional, he faced financial difficulties and spent his money on a long bus ride to Belo Horizonte for a trial. He joined the youth setup of America Mineiro in December 2014 after moving from Real Noroeste.
Manager Givanildo Oliveira promoted him to the first team in June 2015. He made his professional debut on July 4, 2015, coming on as a substitute and scoring in a victory against Mogi Mirim. He helped America Mineiro earn promotion from the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie B before moving to Fluminense at the end of 2015.
Club career in Brazil and England
During his two years at Fluminense, Richarlison scored 19 goals in 67 matches and earned a spot in the Team of the Season for the 2017 Campeonato Carioca. In August 2017, he moved to England to join Premier League club Watford for a transfer fee of 11.2 million pounds. He played every match of the 2017-18 Premier League season for Watford and scored five goals.
In July 2018, Richarlison transferred to Everton, where he finished his first season as joint-highest goalscorer with 13 league goals. He signed a new contract with Everton in December 2019 and later helped the club avoid relegation during the 2021-22 season with crucial goals against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
International career
Richarlison debuted for the senior Brazil national team in 2018. He represented his country at the 2019 Copa America, helping the team win the tournament title. He also played in the 2021 Copa America, where Brazil finished as runners-up.
At the 2020 Olympic tournament, he won a gold medal with the Brazilian team. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he scored a scissor kick goal against Serbia that was voted the Goal of the Tournament.
