Who is Ian McShane?
Early life and education
Ian McShane was born in Blackburn, United Kingdom, on September 29, 1942. His father was a professional footballer, and his mother was of English and Irish descent. He grew up in Davyhulme, which is now part of Greater Manchester, and attended Stretford Grammar School.
Before entering the professional sphere, he joined the National Youth Theatre. He then continued his theatrical training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. While still a student there, he secured a role in his first feature film, titled The Wild and the Willing, which was released in 1962.
Rise to television fame
In the United Kingdom, Ian became widely recognized for playing the antiques dealer in the television series Lovejoy during the 1980s and 1990s. He also appeared in various other British television productions, such as playing Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights and Judas Iscariot in Jesus of Nazareth.
In the United States, he achieved major recognition for portraying Al Swearengen in the HBO drama series Deadwood. His performance in the acclaimed series earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama, alongside receiving a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his lead role.

Ian married English actress Suzan Farmer in 1965, and the couple divorced three years later. He subsequently married his second wife, Ruth Post, with whom he shares two children named Kate and Morgan. After those relationships, he had a romance with Sylvia Kristel.
He later married American actress Gwen Humble, and the couple resides in Venice, California. Through his family, he has multiple grandchildren.
