Who is Ivan Strinić?
Early football career
Ivan Strinić began his path in football with the youth system at Hajduk Split. He remained with the club until 2006 before moving to France to join Le Mans B. After returning to his home country, he played for NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac. His performances there led to a return to Hajduk Split.
During his first season back at Hajduk Split, he played 17 domestic league games as a left-back. He eventually became a regular starter for the team during the 2009-10 season. In that period, he scored four league goals, including one in a match against Dinamo Zagreb.
Professional club career
In January 2011, Ivan Strinić signed with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk for a fee of 4 million euro. He scored a goal during his league debut against Tavriya Simferopol. He played 27 matches in the 2011-12 season and earned 35 appearances for the club during the 2012-13 campaign.
After his time in Ukraine, he joined the Italian club SSC Napoli. He played 112 games for the team over a four-year period. Later, he moved to Sampdoria in August 2017 for a fee of 2 million euro. He signed a one-year contract with the club at that time.
AC Milan and health
Ivan Strinić signed a pre-contract with AC Milan in March 2018, which was finalized in July 2018. While playing in Russia for the national team, he was diagnosed with a heart condition. This medical issue caused him to temporarily stop training in August 2018.
He returned to matchday squads in January 2019 and appeared on the bench 10 times. He made an unofficial debut for the club in a friendly against Bayern Munich as a center back. In August 2019, he and the club management mutually agreed to end his contract early.
Croatia national team
The Croatian senior team first called up Ivan Strinić in May 2010 for a match against Austria. He became a regular left-back for the national side. He played in all three group stage matches during the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament and provided an assist against Italy.
He was a member of the Croatia squad during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He started six of the seven matches as the team finished as runners-up. He earned 49 total caps for his country during his international career.
