Who is Jake Cuenca?
Early life and schooling
Jake Cuenca: Juan Carlos Leveriza Cuenca was born in San Jose, Philippines. He attended PAREF Southridge School in Muntinlupa City for his primary and secondary education. As a child, he struggled with his weight, which motivated him to pursue sports.
This commitment to fitness led him to play football at the varsity level while in school. He eventually developed his skills enough to play professionally for Team Socceroo F.C. In the United Football League.
Career beginnings
At age nine, a talent scout discovered him for the Cosmo Modeling Agency. He began appearing in advertisements for brands like Safeguard, Globe Telecom, and Coke. By age eleven, he had cameo roles in movies such as Takbo Barbara Takbo and Panday.
In 2003, he joined the GMA Network and appeared in the youth drama series Click. He later took on supporting roles in shows like Hanggang Kailan and Love to Love. In 2005, he played Kahlil in the fantasy series Encantadia before moving to the ABS-CBN network in 2006.
Rise to television prominence
After transferring to ABS-CBN, he appeared in soap operas like Sana Maulit Muli. In 2008, he starred in the action series Palos and the mini-series Your Song Presents: A Million Miles Away. He gained significant recognition in 2009 for his portrayal of David Garcia Jr. In the drama Tayong Dalawa, which aired in several countries including Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Throughout the following decade, he maintained a busy schedule. He starred in the Filipino remake of Green Rose in 2011 and played the lead in the series Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo in 2012. Other major roles included playing Franco in the drama Ikaw Lamang and Juan in the 2015 adaptation of Pasyon de amor.

He has appeared in mainstream cinema titles including In the Name of Love, My Neighbor's Wife, and Tuhog. He also participated in indie film projects such as Nuwebe and Lihis.
His work in the film Mulat earned him critical acclaim. He won his first best actor award at the International Film Festival Manhattan in 2014. He secured a second best actor win for the same film at the 2016 World Cinema Festival in Copacabana, Brazil.
Personal life and relationships
Jake dated actress Kylie Verzosa from 2019 until 2022. The couple shared two pets, a bulldog named Nugget and a poodle named Leo. He later dated actress Chie Filomeno from 2023 to 2025.
He is currently in a relationship with TV host and former beauty queen Rabiya Mateo. In 2021, the actor was involved in a traffic incident in Mandaluyong involving a police checkpoint, which resulted in legal charges for reckless imprudence.
