Who is Jamie Oliver?
Early life and education
Jamie Oliver was born on May 27, 1975, in the village of Clavering, Essex. He grew up in the area and spent much of his childhood in the kitchen of the Cricketers, a pub and restaurant owned by his parents, Trevor and Sally Oliver. This early exposure to the hospitality industry allowed him to practice cooking with his family from a young age.
Television and rise to fame
His professional culinary career began as a pastry chef at the Neal Street restaurant, owned by Antonio Carluccio. While working at this establishment, he developed his skills in Italian cuisine and formed a lasting mentorship with Gennaro Contaldo. He later moved to the River Cafe in Fulham, where he worked as a sous-chef.
Restaurant ventures and business
He established the Fifteen Foundation, a social enterprise that trained disadvantaged young adults for employment in the restaurant business. The flagship London restaurant, Fifteen, operated until its closure in May 2019. In 2008, he launched his first high street business venture, Jamie's Italian, in Oxford.
