Who is Jana Burčeska?
Early life and career beginnings
Jana Burčeska was born in Skopje, North Macedonia, on July 6, 1993. She grew up with an interest in music and pursued a career as a pop singer.
In 2011, Jana Burčeska first came to public attention in her home country by competing in the television show Macedonian Idol. She performed well throughout the competition and finished in fifth place.
Eurovision Song Contest
On November 21, 2016, Macedonian Radio Television announced that Jana Burčeska would represent North Macedonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Ukraine. She performed the pop song Dance Alone during the second semi-final on May 11, 2017.
Although she did not advance to the final round, she placed 15th in her semi-final with 69 points. During the broadcast, she announced her pregnancy in her introductory postcard, and her boyfriend Alexander proposed to her on air after her performance.
In later years, Jana Burčeska remained involved with the contest. She served as a member of the national jury in 2021, worked as a press assistant for the delegation in 2022, and announced the jury votes during the grand final.
Television career
Beginning in September 2018, Jana Burčeska expanded her career into television by becoming a presenter on Macedonian Radio Television. She hosted the music program Stisni play.
She also contributed to sports coverage for the network. In June 2021, she presented coverage of UEFA Euro 2020 matches, including the group stage fixtures between Wales and Switzerland and between Sweden and Slovakia. She later hosted the national final selection for Eurovision in 2022.
Family and personal life
Following her engagement to Alexander during the Eurovision broadcast, Jana Burčeska welcomed her first child, a daughter named Dona, in October 2017. She gave birth to her second child, a son named Darin, in August 2020.
