Who is Jason Alexander?
Early life and real name
Jason Alexander was born as Jay Scott Greenspan on September 23, 1959, in Newark, New Jersey. He grew up in Maplewood and Livingston, New Jersey, and graduated from Livingston High School in 1977. Early in life, he developed an interest in magic before turning his focus toward theater.
He went on to study theater at Boston University before leaving to pursue professional acting work in New York City. The university later awarded him an honorary degree in 1995. He adopted his stage name by using his father's first name.
How Jason became famous
Jason achieved international stardom through his work on the television sitcom Seinfeld, where he portrayed the character George Costanza from 1989 to 1998. His performance on the show earned him numerous award nominations, including multiple Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nods, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Before and during his television success, he established himself as a talented stage actor on Broadway. He earned critical acclaim and a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his work in Jerome Robbins' Broadway.
