Who is Jenna Marbles?
Early life and education
Jenna Nicole Mourey was born on September 15, 1986, in Rochester, New York, where she was raised. She attended Brighton High School in the suburb of Brighton and graduated in 2004. After high school, she relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, where she played softball and pursued higher education.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Suffolk University. Following her undergraduate studies, she continued her education at Boston University, where she obtained a Master of Education in sport psychology and counseling.
Rise to YouTube fame
In the summer of 2010, while living in a Cambridge apartment and working jobs that included bartending, tanning salon assistance, and go-go dancing, she began creating content. She also wrote for the Barstool Sports female-oriented site StoolLaLa until leaving the publication in 2011.
She launched her YouTube channel in 2010 and quickly found viral success with her comedy video titled How to Trick People into Thinking You're Good Looking. The upload gained millions of views in its first week. Following advice related to Google search results and her mother's concerns, she adopted the pseudonym Jenna Marbles, taking the last name from her dog, Mr. Marbles.
Projects and appearances
Beyond her solo channel, she appeared in various media projects. She portrayed Eve in an episode of Epic Rap Battles of History titled Adam vs. Eve. She also made guest appearances in Annoying Orange, Ridiculousness, and Smosh: The Movie, and she appeared in the music video for Pitbull's song Fireball.
Alongside Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox of Smosh, she became one of the first YouTube personalities to have her likeness displayed as a wax figure at Madame Tussauds New York in 2015. In 2014, she hosted a weekly pop countdown on SiriusXM Hits 1 named YouTube 15. She also worked as an executive producer for the 2016 film Maximum Ride.
Hiatus and personal life
In June 2020, Jenna Marbles uploaded an apology video addressing older content from 2011 and 2012 that included offensive language, costuming, and impersonations. She stated that she never intended to hurt anyone, acknowledged that the actions were shameful, and announced an indefinite hiatus from the platform.
She became engaged to fellow YouTuber Julien Solomita in April 2021 and they married in November 2022. Based in Santa Monica, California, during part of her career, she is a vegan and has lived with several dogs over the years.
