Who is Jordan Peele?
Early life and education
Jordan Haworth Peele was born on February 21, 1979, in New York City. He was raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan by his mother, Lucinda J. Peele. His father, Hayward Peele Jr., was originally from North Carolina and passed away in 1999. Jordan attended the Computer School in Manhattan and later graduated from The Calhoun School in 1997 after receiving a scholarship to the private institution.
Television career and comedy
Jordan began his professional comedy career performing with improv troupes like Boom Chicago in Amsterdam and The Second City in Chicago. In 2003, he joined the cast of the Fox sketch comedy series Mad TV during its ninth season. He spent five seasons on the show, where he became known for his celebrity impressions, including parodies of figures such as Morgan Freeman, Montel Williams, and Seal. He left the program in 2008.
Transition to filmmaking
In 2012, Jordan founded his own production company, Monkeypaw Productions. He made his directorial debut in 2017 with the horror film Get Out. The movie was a significant critical and financial success, grossing over $255 million against a budget of $4.5 million. He won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the film, making him the first African American screenwriter to receive this honor in that category. The film also earned nominations for Best Picture and Best Director.
Family and personal life
Jordan Peele is married to Chelsea Peretti, who is also a comedian and actor. The couple has one child together, named Beaumont Peele. Aside from his directing and producing commitments, he has been involved in several television projects, including serving as the host and producer for the Paramount+ revival of The Twilight Zone from 2019 to 2020. He also co-created the TBS series The Last O.G. And the YouTube Premium series Weird City.
