Who is Joseph Morgan?
Early life and education
Joseph Morgan was born in London, United Kingdom. He spent 11 years of his childhood living in Swansea, Wales, before eventually returning to London. He is the oldest child in his family.
His formal education included time at Morriston Comprehensive School. Later, he enrolled in a BTEC Performing Arts program at Gorseinon College, which is now known as Gower College Swansea. He continued his training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London to further his acting skills.
Acting career highlights
One of his early professional experiences involved auditioning for a role in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets film. His television career included a part in the first series of Hex on Sky One where he portrayed the character Troy. He also secured supporting roles in films such as Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World in 2003 and Alexander in 2004.
Joseph gained significant attention for his performance as Klaus Mikaelson in the CW series The Vampire Diaries, which began in 2011. He continued to play this character in the spin-off show The Originals from 2013 until 2018. He also reprised this role during the final season of the series Legacies.
Recent work and directing
In 2020, he took on the role of CJack60/Elliot in the Peacock science fiction series Brave New World. Two years later, he joined the cast of the HBO Max series Titans as Brother Blood. By 2024, he appeared as James Ackerson in the Paramount+ series Halo, where his character serves as an operative for the Office of Naval Intelligence.
Beyond acting, he has experience behind the camera. He directed three episodes of The Originals between 2016 and 2018. The episodes he directed include Behind the Black Horizon, Keepers of the House, and Ne Me Quitte Pas.
Personal life and marriage
Joseph met the actress Persia White while working on the set of The Vampire Diaries. The two started dating in 2011 and announced their engagement in 2014. They were married on July 5, 2014, in a ceremony held in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
Outside of his professional life, he has followed a vegan diet since 2014. He is also known to be a supporter of the charity organization Positive Women. Throughout his career, he has earned several nominations for Teen Choice Awards and one People's Choice Award.
