Who is Juan Foyth?
Early life and background
Juan Foyth was born in La Plata, Argentina. He grew up in this city and possesses Czech and Polish ancestry. Because of his heritage, he holds a Polish passport in addition to his Spanish nationality. His family name was originally spelled Fojt before it was changed when they arrived in Argentina.
Before his professional career began, he spent several years training in the youth academy at Estudiantes de La Plata. He started out as an attacking midfielder during his time in the academy. He eventually moved to the centre-back position before he reached the age of 16.
Club career highlights
The professional path of Juan Foyth began at his hometown club, Estudiantes de La Plata. He signed his first professional contract in January 2017 and made his Primera División debut against Patronato on 19 March 2017. He played several matches in the league and the Copa Sudamericana during his tenure there until June 2019.
In August 2017, he moved to the Premier League to join Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of 8 million pounds. He made his debut in an EFL Cup match against Barnsley on 19 September. During his time in England, he scored his first goal against Crystal Palace and reached the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League final as a runner-up.
Argentina national team
Juan Foyth has represented Argentina at various levels, including the under-20 team in 2017. He played in the South American Youth Football Championship and the FIFA U-20 World Cup. His senior international debut occurred on 16 November 2018, during a match against Mexico where he was named man of the match.
He was a member of the squad that finished third in the 2019 Copa América. In 2022, he was part of the team that won the Finalissima at Wembley Stadium. He was also included in the 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
