Early life and background
Justyna Steczkowska was born in Rzeszów, in the southeastern region of Poland, on August 2, 1972. She grew up as the fourth of nine children born to Danuta and Stanisław Steczkowski. Her father worked as a music teacher and conductor. When she was five years old, her family moved to Stalowa Wola, where she attended the Ignacy Jan Paderewski State Music School. She later graduated from a music high school in Rzeszów.
After finishing high school, she moved to Gdańsk to study at a musical academy. However, she decided to drop out so she could focus entirely on her singing. Before launching her solo career, she played the violin in a family band and sang in various rock and jazz groups.
Music career and breakthrough
Justyna Steczkowska came to public prominence in June 1994 when she won the television talent show Szansa na sukces. During the show, she performed a well-known song by the group Maanam. Later that year, she performed her single at a festival in Opole and won a major award. In March 1996, she released her debut solo album titled Dziewczyna Szamana, which became both a critical and a commercial success.
Over the following decades, she released numerous albums covering various musical styles, including electronic music, ambient sounds, and collaborative projects. She worked with many artists and producers, releasing records such as Naga, Alkimja, and Szamanka. In addition to her studio albums, she participated in the Eurovision Song Contest representing Poland with songs like Sama and Gaja.

Justyna Steczkowska comes from a large musical family. Her parents and siblings have strong ties to music, and she previously performed alongside her family members in a band. Her siblings include Magda Steczkowska and Marcin Steczkowski. Her partner is Paweł Fortuna.
