Early life and education
Katarzyna Małgorzata Figura was born in Warsaw, Poland. She completed her studies at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. Following this training, she pursued further acting education at the Parisian Conservatoire d'Art Dramatique.
Film and television career
Katarzyna Figura first gained major notice as the lead in the 1987 film Pociąg do Hollywood, directed by Radosław Piwowarski. Critics often described her persona in early works as a Polish Marilyn Monroe, noting her frequent roles as wives of wealthy men or seductive characters. She later transitioned toward portraying more embittered and mature figures.
In the 1990s, she appeared in the Robert Altman film Prêt-à-Porter, sometimes credited under the name Kasia Figura. She has also maintained a steady presence on television. Since 2005, she has appeared regularly in the show Witches. Her work is not limited to screen acting, as she performs in theatrical productions as well.
Theatrical work and awards
Katarzyna Figura performed at the Teatr Współczesny from 1985 until 1988. She made a return to the stage in 2004 with a performance in the play Alina to the West, directed by Paweł Miśkiewicz at the Warsaw Drama Theater. For this role, she adopted a new look by shaving her head, which marked a departure from her previous public image.
The film industry has honored her work multiple times. She received the Best Actress award at the Gdynia Film Festival twice, in 1999 and 2003, for her film roles. She also earned an Eagle Award in 2004. In 2019, she received the Zbigniew Cybulski Award in recognition of her lifetime achievement.
