Early Life and Education
Katee Sackhoff was born Kathryn Ann Sackhoff on April 8, 1980, in Portland, Oregon. She grew up in St. Helens, Oregon, where her mother Mary worked as an English-as-second-language program coordinator and her father Dennis worked as a land developer. She attended Sunset High School in Beaverton and graduated in the year 1998.
During her youth, she pursued competitive swimming with the intention of building a career in the sport until a right knee injury altered her plans. This injury prompted her to begin practicing yoga and turned her attention toward an interest in acting. When she was seventeen years old, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue professional opportunities in the entertainment industry after appearing in the Lifetime film Fifteen and Pregnant.

Katee Sackhoff achieved widespread recognition for her portrayal of Lieutenant Kara Starbuck Thrace in the science fiction television series Battlestar Galactica from 2003 through 2009. Her performance earned her a Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television in 2006. Toward the end of filming the series, she faced health challenges and was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, though she successfully underwent surgery and entered remission by February 2009.
Following her breakthrough role, she appeared as Dana Walsh in the eighth season of the action series 24 and played Sheriff Deputy Victoria Vic Moretti in the television drama Longmire between 2012 and 2017. Her voice acting career includes playing the character Bo-Katan Kryze across multiple projects in the Star Wars franchise, including Star Wars The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and the live action series The Mandalorian.
Personal Life and Projects
Katee Sackhoff married actor Robin Gadsby in October 2021 after meeting him in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2018. The couple has a daughter and a son together and moved back to Oregon in 2024 alongside their children. Previously, she was in a relationship with actor Karl Urban from 2014 until 2018.
Alongside her acting work, she co-founded the motorcycle riding charity Acting Outlaws with her former co-star Tricia Helfer to raise funds and awareness for organizations such as the Humane Society and the Red Cross. She has also hosted podcasts including The Sackhoff Show, which focuses on television discussions.
