Early life and background
Kaya Scodelario was born Kaya Rose Humphrey on March 13, 1992, in Haywards Heath, United Kingdom. Her mother is Brazilian and her father was Polish-English. Her parents divorced when she was one year old, and she was raised by her mother in London, where she spoke Portuguese at home.
She attended schools in London including Bishop Douglass School and Arts and Media School Islington. During her school years, she participated in theatrical plays as a way to cope with bullying.
Rise to fame on television
In 2006, at age 14, Kaya Scodelario joined the cast of the E4 drama series Skins without any prior acting experience. She portrayed Effy Stonem, starting with minimal speaking lines in the first series and growing into the central character for the third and fourth series.
Her performance received critical praise and earned her two Golden Nymph nominations as well as TV Quick Award nominations for Best Actress. She later reprised her role in the seventh season of the series in an adult-focused storyline.
Film and television career
Kaya Scodelario made her feature film debut in the science fiction thriller Moon, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. She then appeared in Clash of the Titans and played Cathy in an adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
She achieved wider international recognition when she was cast as Teresa in the film adaptation of The Maze Runner in 2014, later returning for its sequels. Her other major film credits include Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Crawl, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. In addition, she starred in the television series The Gentlemen and Senna.

Kaya Scodelario was previously married to actor Benjamin Walker, with whom she shares two children. The couple began their relationship during the filming of The King's Daughter, married in December 2015, and later separated in February 2024.
Standing 168 cm tall, she has also worked as a model and became the face of the jewelry brand Clash de Cartier. Outside of her acting projects, she has been involved in high-profile advertising campaigns and brand partnerships.
