Who is Kevin Alejandro?
Early life and education
Kevin Michael Alejandro was born on April 7, 1976, in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in Snyder, Texas, where he played football and studied drama during his school years. His parents are from Mexico, and his mother originated from Guadalajara. Spanish was the first language he learned as a child.
He credits his high school drama teacher with helping him secure a four-year scholarship to attend the University of Texas at Austin. To give back to the program that supported his development, he established a scholarship in his former teacher's name to help other students attend theatre camp.
Television and film roles
Kevin Alejandro has appeared in numerous television series throughout his career. Early credits include playing Santos on the ABC series Ugly Betty and appearing in the second season of Showtime's Sleeper Cell as Benito Velasquez. He also had roles as Dominic Hughes in The Young and the Restless and as Deputy District Attorney Danny Reyes on the drama Shark.
His filmography includes the 2009 movie Crossing Over alongside Harrison Ford. In 2011, he appeared in Red State directed by Kevin Smith and the horror film Cassadaga. He also portrayed Tony Arroyo in the 2013 television series Golden Boy and Sheriff Tommy Solano in the series The Returned.
He became well known for his portrayal of Detective Nate Moretta in the crime drama Southland. He also played Jesus Velazquez in the supernatural series True Blood and Sebastian Blood in the superhero show Arrow. His work on the Fox and Netflix series Lucifer as Detective Dan Espinoza remains one of his most recognized performances.
Directing career
Beyond acting, Kevin Alejandro has expanded his career into directing. He has directed several episodes of television and two short films. His directing work on the series Lucifer includes the season 5 episode Spoiler Alert and the season 6 premiere.
He also directed the bonus episode titled Once Upon a Time. This stylized episode was originally intended for the fourth season of Lucifer but aired on May 28, 2018, following the conclusion of the third season.
