Who is Kevin Sorbo?
Early life and education
Kevin Sorbo was born in Mound, Minnesota, on September 24, 1958. He grew up in a Lutheran household and is of Norwegian and Italian descent. To support his studies, he worked as a model for various television and print advertisements.
He attended Westonka High School before enrolling at Minnesota State University Moorhead. During his time at the university, he focused his studies on advertising and marketing. This early work in modeling helped fund his college tuition.
Television and film career
The actor achieved international recognition for his role as Hercules in the series Hercules: The famous Journeys. This production began airing in 1995 and lasted for six seasons. He also starred as Captain Dylan Hunt in the science fiction show Andromeda from 2000 to 2005.
In 1997, he took on his first leading film role in the fantasy movie Kull the Conqueror. His work expanded into Christian cinema with films like God's Not Dead and Let There Be Light. He also appeared in the 2024 biopic Reagan.
Earlier in his career, he appeared in the soap opera Santa Barbara in 1986. He also had guest roles in shows such as Murder, She Wrote and The Commish. In the early 1990s, he appeared in over 150 different commercials.
Health and personal life
In 1997, Kevin Sorbo suffered an aneurysm in his shoulder that led to three strokes. He kept this health struggle private while he recovered for several years. This condition resulted in a modified filming schedule during the final seasons of his Hercules series.
He married Sam Jenkins in 1998, whom he met while she was working on Hercules. The couple has two children named Braeden Sorbo and Shane Sorbo. Kevin is a Christian and attends a nondenominational church.
In 2001, he appeared on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and won $32,000. He donated the entire prize amount to his charity, A World Fit For Kids. He has also received awards for his advocacy regarding stroke awareness.
